About Hal Portner...
For 20 years, Hal Portner was a teacher and administrator in two Connecticut public school districts. For the next 10 years, he was with the Connecticut State Department of Education, Bureau of Certification and Professional Development, where, among other responsibilities, he served as coordinator of the Connecticut Institute for Teaching and Learning and worked closely with school districts to develop and carry out professional development and teacher evaluation plans and programs. Hal also served as Assistant Director of the
Mount Holyoke College SummerMath program
and for three years was professional development consultant for the faculty of Holyoke (MA) Community College. Now, Hal develops and facilitates online courses for Western New England University, writes, develops materials, trains mentors and coaches, facilitates the development of new-teacher induction programs, and presents to and consults with school districts and other educational organizations and institutions.
He is the author of a Fantasy Novel, The Guardian's Way
